Written for female voices at the request of a Ladies Choir in Yorkshire who were looking for original works that they could enter for performance at a competitive festival; Standford never knew the outcome! The words are written by Standford.

A Bell Song: A bell in the steeple rings up the dawn, a summer day is nigh! A lilac is scenting the air of the morn: a summer day is dawning. A merry noise the bells do ring; let them all sing.

Lullaby: Sleep little baby and have no fear, when you awake we shall all still be here to tend you and sing you our song: lullaby lulalulay.
