This is a setting of one of the earliest poems in the Italian language written by St Francis of Assisi, and is a song of praise.

Written in 1969 for Alan Cuckston, revised in 1982.

Saint Francis of Assisi (1186-1226) was said to have been so saintly that he was called 'the other Christ'. His canticle hymn in praise of 'all created things' is, in its pure simplicity and humility, a source of great inspiration. Cantico is a setting of one of St Francis' earliest poems, in the Italian language, and is a song of praise.
