"The request to write this work, came as so often happens, with the proviso that the instrumentation be limited - in this case to the size of an early classical orchestra. I decieded to write the work based entirely upon contrasts of sound and texture using as many various colours as I felt musically justifiable to build an abstract sequence in sound, and yet to fulfill the primary request (and intention) to write a piece of music. The instrumentalists are treated as a large chamber ensemble, rather than a small orchestra."
