'St Paul's Cathedral housed an unusual event…the sheer mastery with which all this as handled fulfils the promise ofStandford's Notte for chamber orchestra. The Christus Requiem, like Notte reveals an ear acutely sensitive to the acoustic dimensions of music. Never has the reverberation period of St Paul's been more happily exploited by both common chords and atonal clusters, for, like a later day Holst, Standford reaches beyond the boundaries of tonality, but hears what he writes… an occasion which made other recent multimedia experiments seem like small beer.'
