‘The second half began with Five French Folksongs in arrangements for wind quintet by Patric Standford. The Barnsley born composer caught the Gallic flavour of the music perfectly and it was good to have him in the audience to acknowledge the well-deserved applause. We need more occasions at the Concert club when music by living composers is given. Of course the players did him proud with Philippa Davies on flute relishing her many chances to excel.’
