'Standford is a composer with a great gift for creating and maintaining an impression of Nature at her most delicate, an this little 'night-piece' does jet that. It is extremely beautiful, fluent and economical in scoring, a perfect modern piece for chamber orchestra. The opening bars set the mood, which is then heightened, culminating in a long off-stage duologue for two horns, into which woodwind and strings we've aleatoric patterns. The final section impressed me as a kind of gentle summing up of what had gone before, not so machine material as in mood and texture.'
