Six Preludes for guitar is a revision and extension of an earlier set of three which started life in 1978, where Standford worked with guitarists Gerald Lee at the Guildhall School of Music and later David Taplin at Huddersfield University. Guitarist Neil Smith requested to print one of the preludes as a supplement in Classical Guitar magazine Volume 14, No.2, October 1995.

In 2008 Standford completely revised, reworked and extended the preludes in discussion with guitarist Neil Darwent at Huddersfield University, the intention being to explore more of the guitar’s potential than did the original.

The audio samples are from a live lunchtime concert given by Neil Darwent playing the preludes in their original form at Huddersfield University.
