Standford says, "The convivial and often satirical songs of the 15th century poet Olivier Basselin were known by the name of his Normandy birthplace, ‘Chansons du Vau de Ville'. In the course of time equally convivial and lighteated stage entertainments adopted the same name - "Vaudeville". This suite was inspired both by these and by a seemingly lost tradition of English ligh music."

Standford has incorporated some of the well loved melodies from his successful Celestial Fire ballet suite to create this light-hearted, joyful work for elementary wind orchestra. It comprises: Procession, Serenade, Nostalgia, Limping Dance, Waltz and Parade.

Commissioned by the British Association of Symphonic Bands & Wind Ensembles/RNCM International Wind Festival.
